The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday arrested Syed Burhanuddin from Hyderabad in the Chhattisgarh bribery case.
Principal Secretary for higher education BL Agarwal was arrested yesterday in connection with the same case for allegedly paying Rs. 1.5 crore to private persons.
It is alleged that Agarwal, an IAS officer of the 1988 batch, wanted to 'settle' a CBI probe against him.
He was facing CBI investigation in two cases registered in 2010.
The cases relate to the period for which he was the Health Secretary in the Chhattisgarh Government. He has been chargesheeted in one case while probe is going on in the other.
He allegedly approached Bhagwan Singh, a resident of Noida, who took him to Syed Burhanuddin.
Burhanuddin, who has many aliases, claimed that he was working in Prime Minister's Office and would help Agarwal settle the case in his favour.
Burhanuddin aka OP Singh aka OP Sharma demanded Rs. 1.5 crore as illegal gratification for his services, the CBI FIR alleged.
