The Congress party on Wednesday said that the stepping down of key Union and State ministers of the NDA Government embroiled in various scams and controversies would send a clear message to the country that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is serious about eliminating corruption.

Highlighting that BJP patriarch L K Advani had resigned soon after his name cropped up in the Hawala scam, Congress leader Gaurv Gogoi said: "When allegations were put on Advani, he resigned immediately. We thought BJP leaders will learn some lesson from this but they are attacking the Congress."

"Resignations would send a clear message to the country that the Prime Minister is serious. If resignations do not take place, then the entire country will know the truth that these are mere words and the BJP is not serious," he added.

The Lalit Modi issue figured in the Rajya Sabha for the second day today with both the opposition and the government sticking to their stands.

The House witnessed an unprecedented uproar with the Congress demanding that nothing short of the resignation of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, will satisfy them.
