The Communist Party of India (Marxist), on Friday has expelled Rajya Sabha MP Ritabrata Banerjee from the party for violating its norms.
"Ritabrata Banerjee has been expelled from being a primary member of the party," CPM confirmed.
The party said that in an interview on September 11, Ritabrata Banerjee tried to "publicly malign" the party based on which it was decided to expel him.
This comes after, the CPM, earlier on June 2 suspended its parliament member Ritabrata Banerjee over complaints about his lifestyle.
According to sources, Banerjee was suspended for three months after finding that his lifestyle was not in accordance with the party's ideology and also because of several allegations leveled against him on the same.
Allegations have been swirling around the media that Banerjee was living a high and lavish lifestyle.
Banerjee was elected as a Rajya Sabha member from West Bengal in February 2014.
