A cyclone hit Siliguri in West Bengal in the wee hours of Saturday, damaging houses, uprooting trees and injuring ten people.
Heavy rains lashed Maynaguri block in Jalpaiguri district and over 1000 houses, acres of farmland and trees were washed away in the region.
"A storm that hit yesterday night resulted in blowing away the roof of my house. I was sleeping when the storm hit us. I cannot understand now how to go about preparing for my exams, which is around the corner," said a resident Samir Bagchi.
Injured have been admitted to a hospital.
"Suddenly a tree fell in the middle of our house while I, along with my wife and son were sleeping. My son got hurt on his head due to the sudden falling of the tree," said another resident Ratin Das.
Meanwhile, the National Highway-31, which connects the northeast with the rest of the country was blocked due to fallen tree.
Reportedly, 500 villagers were rendered homeless and relief camps have been set up for them.
