Dwellers start preservation campaign for Dal Lake

For the preservation of Dal Lake in Srinagar renowned dwellers and senior citizens have come forward to start a massive campaign with unique method to spread cleanliness awareness among the people.

Dal Lake is one of the most beautiful water bodies of the Valley which is playing a major role to attract lakhs of tourists every year across the world.

Shikara riding and house boat are the identities of the lake and tourists enjoy these attractions at a large scale. Moreover, maximum visitors prefer to stay in the house boats instead of hotels.

But unfortunately for the last few years due to the encroachment and lack of awareness regarding the importance of cleanliness Dal Lake has been polluted immensely.

Therefore, some renowned dwellers including house boat owners, shirker owners and senior citizens have taken an important step to start a specific campaign with unique style. During the campaign these dwellers make a chain of Shikaras and fix some loud speakers on big water boats for announcing preservation measures.

With the help of motor boats Shikara campaigners visit number of places and aware people regarding the importance of Dal Lake which should be preserved for the future generation.

"We have started a drive for making people aware about the importance of the lake. We have a lot of hope from this campaign. Though we have come up with such ideas earlier as well but this time we are determined to bring the change," said Tariq Ahmad, a boat owner.

People appreciate these organizers for taking this important initiative because Dal Lake is one of the major tourist spot and generates a lot of employment for thousands of people.
