England recovered from another shaky start to consolidate their lead to 220 at stumps on day three of the first Test against West Indies in Antigua.

Resuming the play on day three, West Indies were eventually bundled out for 295 as James Tredwell scalped four wickets while conceding 47 runs.

Jermaine Blackwood struck his maiden Test century as he remained unbeaten on 112 to limit England's first-half lead to 104.

England batting order stuttered in the second innings as openers Alastair Cook (13) and Jonathan Trott (4) were dismissed off Jerome Taylor's bowling as they failed again to give their team a solid start.

Ian Bell, who scored century in the first innings, was run out for 11 after a half-hearted attempt to regain his ground following an aborted single to backward square-leg, the BBC reported.

Gary Balance (44 not out) and Joe Root (32 not out) steadied the ship as the duo remained unbeaten to built a 64-run stand for the fourth wicket, taking second innings total to 116-3.

Pace spearhead James Anderson is expected to surpass Ian Botham's England Test record of 383 on the fourth afternoon as he is one wicket away from achieving the feat.
