EU ministers to discuss Mediterranean migrant crisis

The European Union ministers are set to discuss the issue of migrant crisis in the Mediterranean as Italy threatens to respond strongly if no solution is reached.

According to BBC, a plan to distribute asylum seekers more evenly across all 28 EU states was a key issue at the talks in Luxembourg.

Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi said that his nation will adopt a "Plan B" that will "hurt" Europe.

Some EU states, including Germany and Austria, back a deal to share a total of 60,000 asylum seekers across 25 nations while some states argue that migrants should not be forced to move to countries where they do not wish to settle.

France has accused Italy of failing to respect EU asylum rules, but the Rome Government has argued that the migrants see Italy only as a transit country.
