Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi, who attended his last session of the state assembly as Chief Minister, on Wednesday, said each and everyone has contributed to Gujarat's success.
"Bipartisanship is the Gujarat model. People are curious about the Gujarat model. I learnt a lot in the Gujarat Assembly. Got the honour of becoming the chief minister four times," Modi said.
"Gujarat was devastated by financial scams and the earthquake when I took charge.," And 2002 was a challenge. I trust the people of Gujarat to take the state forward. I have never said what has happened in Gujarat in the last 12-13 years. Each and everyone has contributed," he added.
Asserting that institutionalising ideas is important, Modi said: "My success does not lie in development today, but in the development journey that will continue after today."
"No matter how much the world praises you, when you are praised among your own people, the feeling is something else. I have not spoken much in the Gujarat Assembly. People have told me that the nation gets benefit, but we don't. But here, I just want to listen. I thank everybody present here and all the Gujaratis for providing me this opportunity of serving you all," he added.
On a lighter note, Modi said: "In PMO, Gujarati will be spoken, Khaman Dhokla will be eaten, Khakhras will be eaten."
Modi was appointed as India's 14th Prime Minister yesterday after he met President Pranab Mukherjee to officially stake his claim to form the next government at the Centre. He will assume formal charge after taking oath at 6 p.m. on May 26.
