Former Pakistan captain Aamir Sohail has claimed that all-rounder Fawad Alam would have struggled to make runs in the World Cup.

Pakistan revealed its 15-man squad for the tournament on January 7, with the selectors excluding Alam and Shoaib Malik from the final 15, while all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez, who is under a bowling ban for his illegal bowling action, and fast bowler Sohail Khan were included.

Aamir claimed that whilst it is disappointing for Alam that he was not selected, he has to admit that he didn't rate the all-rounder very highly, Pak Passion reported.

Aamir, who was a member of Pakistan's victorious World Cup squad of 1992, further said that technically Alam is not great and he believes the all-rounder would have struggled to make runs in Australia and New Zealand at the World Cup.

Aamir also stated that there seems to have been a lack of planning and foresight and vision ahead of the World Cup, claiming that there has been a lack of preparation and the irony is that with the tournament around the corner, only three or four players from the squad have actually played in Australia before.

The former skipper also said that the practice games ahead of the World Cup would be very important and would provide a gauge for how Pakistan would perform. He added that at the moment the preparations have been unsatisfactory plus the team combination is all over the place and unsettled.
