In the wake of recent talks of removing Pakistan Cricket Board's top officials, former batsman Salim Malik has demanded that the PCB chief's post should only be confined to cricketers.
Insisting that non-technocrats should never be appointed as the PCB head, Malik stressed that only the cricketers would be in a better position to understand the problems of the team and resolve them amicably, the Dawn reported.
Malik also welcomed the appointment of former player Inzamam-ul-Haq as the national chief selector, saying that he was a well-known skipper of his time and affirmed that he would surely ensure a proper policy to work.
The 53-year-old also revealed that he was interested in applying for the post of head coach but changed his mind later after the PCB seemed to be interested in hiring a foreign coach for the post.
Malik was recently cleared by a court over the match-fixing charges levelled against him by one-man judicial commission of Justice (Retd.) Qayyum Malik in 2000.
Earlier, Haroon Rasheed was sacked as the chief selector after the special committee asked the PCB to bring change in the selection committee following the team's disastrous exit from the World T20.
