Facebook has reportedly rolled out a lighter version of its mobile app, aimed directly at developing markets.
The app has already landed in Asia and will be subsequently introduced to Africa, Latin America, and Europe.
The new Facebook Lite allows people on slower networks and those having mobile phones lacking high-end specifications and large batteries to connect to their network of friends, reported The Verge.
The 1MB-app runs on Android and has been stripped down to absolute basics, making it quick and easy to install and use. While data-heavy features like video and locations services are supported, but users will only receive push notifications for them. The app will also allow people to share photos on the go.
The app is especially optimised for 2G networks and works in areas with bad internet connectivity.
