Gunjan Sharma of Sivasagar district who had managed to save a group of kidnapped children last year was awarded the 1st Assam State Bravery award at Sannkardev Kalakshetra Auditorium in Guwahati.
Gunjan received Rs.2 lakh and a recitation as an honor.
The state government also felicitated the girls' football team of Kiyang Khasia High School of Karimganj district who won the runners up trophy at the Subroto Cup tournament held recently in Delhi.
12 sportspersons who had participated and won medals at the special Olympic Asia Pacific Games held in Australia last year were also awarded with cash prize.
Football player Alen Deori, who is currently playing for the Northeast United FC, was also given Rs.1 Lakh.
