Flower insistent on remaining England coach even if Oz wins Ashes 5-0

England team director and coach Andy Flower has insisted that he will not quit the team even if the tourists are whitewashed five-nil in Australia in the Ashes.

The hierarchy at the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have stated their desire for Flower to continue to the 2015 World Cup and the Ashes that follow, but they would not have thought he would do so with the stain of an Ashes whitewash on his resume.

However, the Mirror reports that Flower launched an impassioned defence of his coaching credentials and said that he wants to be the man to start the next era of English cricket and take the team through the rebuilding process as he still has confidence in his ability to lead England in the right direction.

Stating that he would like to carry on in his job as after the Sydney Test it would be the start of a new cycle for the team, Flower however, admitted that the team has seen an end of an era with the leaving of Jonathan Trott and the retirement of Graeme Swann.

But Flower is aware that the new managing director of England cricket, Paul Downton will have a say in the matter, although he said that he has a vision which he plans to share with Downton, adding that it would be careless to have a knee-jerk reaction to this Test series loss.
