Four members of a family were hacked to death by unidentified assailants in Uttar Pradesh's Banda district on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Mahavir (46), his wife Chunni (43) and two minor sons Rajkumar and Pawan Kumar.
DIG Gyaneshwar Tiwari said that the reason behind murder is yet to be ascertained.
"Four members of a family has been dead and two children is alive. Bodies of family members were sent for the postmortem. The reason for the murder is yet to be ascertained", he said.
Investigation is underway as the bodies have been sent for postmortem.
