Gary Player, who is regarded as one of the greatest golfers of all time, wants American Phil Mickelson to win the US Open at Chambers Bay.
Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Player, Ben Hogan and Gene Sarazen are the only players in history to win all four of the Grand Slam titles and Player wants Mickelson to join the list.
Player shared his feelings via a tweet, saying that he would be rooting for Mickelson to complete the grand slam.
Mickelson is a five-time major winning but has had his fare share of heartache when competing in the US Open, most notably in the 2013 US Open at Merion, Sport24 reported.
He has eight top-five finishes in his US Open career but had been unable to win the cup.
Player also feels that the South African golfers need to improve on their current form in order to compete at the field.
