Gilchrist calls Haddin's Ashes selection 'inspired move'

Australian legend Adam Gilchrist has said that he believed that the return of Brad Haddin to the Australian side could be an inspired move by the selectors.

According to the Mirror, as arguably the greatest wicket-keeper/batsman of all time, Gilchrist is aware about not only a gloveman's role but that too of a team vice-captain, a job which Haddin, along with Matt Prior, have got during this series as two players who can set an example as well as motivate others in the dressing room

Stating that the return of Haddin has bolstered the spine of the team and added more substance to it, Gilchrist said that he believes that Haddin is an inspired call by the selectors, adding that his reliability, seniority and experience would have played a major part in his comeback, at a time when the Australian batting lineup is vulnerable.

According to Gilchrist, there are many players in the team who view Haddin as a very consistent cricketer, adding that the team needs such stability to develop.

Gilchrist also said that the current squad might be symbolic of a societal change where people are finding out about benefits without quite as much sacrifice and commitment as previously needed.

Gilchrist further said that Haddin would show every player what their requirements are in the team, adding that they test their requirements in the Ashes and by playing Test cricket.

Meanwhile, the report added that Trent Bridge cricket chiefs would not be swayed in their decision to ban Barmy Army trumpeter Billy Cooper from playing his instrument at the first Test despite player demands.
