Australian golfer and entrepreneur Greg Norman has said that his protegee and defending US Masters champion Adam Scott would struggle to win the tournament this year because of the 'myriad distractions' that came with being a defending champion.
It was 33 years ago this week that Norman announced himself on the world stage by finishing fourth behind Tom Watson in his first appearance at a US Masters, although the following two decades saw mainly deep-seated frustration and despair for the golfer.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the former world No.1 believes Scott would find it considerably more difficult to win this year because of the myriad distractions that came with being a defending champion, adding that even if the Australian has a good chance of successfully defending his title, he will be under a lot of pressure than last year.
Norman also said that there would be a lot of expectations and talk over Scott, adding that he will need to eliminate all the outer distractions and just focus on his improving his game if he wants to win the Masters.
