The Congress Party on Friday criticised the NDA Government for Delhi's worsening sanitation crisis, and suggested it was a 'selfie government' in power that was failing to deliver on its promises.

Congress leader Tom Vadakkan asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take a 'selfie' with piled up garbage in the background.

"How about PM take a selfie with garbage in the background? This is a selfie government. They have only made fake promises," he said.

Vadakkan also appealed to Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to stop bickering and work towards cleaning up the city.

"I appeal to Governor that it doesn't matter who is more powerful, main issue is that people are suffering. Chief Minister needs to stop fighting. 15,000 tonnes of garbage is lying around in Delhi and AAP is making the people suffer," he added.

Massive amounts of garbage are piled up in various parts of the city after the sanitation workers in Delhi went on a strike because of non-payment of salaries for the last three months.

Last week, Kejriwal had said his government would release Rs. 500 crores to civic bodies to clear the pending salaries of MCD workers.
