Imran says neither needs nor would approach Pak army on political issues

A day after former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Javed Hashmi claimed that chairman Imran Khan was being backed by the Pakistani military in the current political standoff in Islamabad, Khan has reportedly denied the allegation by saying that he neither needs nor would approach the army on political issues.

In a statement released by his party, he said that in his 18-year-long political career, he has never needed any "political crutches" and claimed that he has always fought for "real democracy" and that throughout the protests, he has emphasized that he would not accept any undemocratic intervention, reported The Express Tribune.

Terming Hashmi's allegation a "figment of his imgaintaion," Khan claimed that it was an attempt to malign him for his own "questionable agenda."

Hashmi had said during an interview on late Monday that Khan had asked him not to worry because a judge would order re-elections soon. He had also said that the PTI chief had already selected a three member committee to manage the affairs of the next elections because he was sure that a re-election was on cards.
