The Indian Navy on Sunday displayed a range of maritime operations as part of the ongoing Navy Day celebrations in Kochi, Kerala.
Maritime commandos carried out some dare-devilry mock anti-hijack operations.
The operational demonstrations included landing of a helicopter on a moving warship and simulation of VBSS (visit, board, search and seizure) operations.
A fly-past by helicopters and fighter trainer aircraft Hawks set the tempo.
Helobatics by the Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) and warship formations led by INS Kochi, one of the largest indigenously built warships of Indian Navy named after the city, provided the spectators with operational prowess of the Indian Navy.
Chief of Staff Rear Admiral R.B. Pandit of Southern Naval Command briefed the media about the capabilities and strengths of Indian navy.
"We have given a small glimpse of the India navy's operational capabilities and its ability to provide maritime security to the nation. We have also been proud to bring before you the most latest, most modern and the most powerful destroyer recently commissioned into the Indian navy and named as INS Kochi," said Pandit.
Indian Navy day is celebrated on December 4 every year. It is celebrated to commemorate the start of Operation Trident.
The Indian navy launched the Operation Trident during the India-Pakistan war in 1971. It sank three vessels near Pakistan's port city of Karachi during the operation which saw the use of anti-ship missiles in the region for the first time.
