The new official statistics have revealed that male drivers are the true menace on the roads.
According to Victoria Police stats Men account for a shocking 70 per cent of all speeding, mobile phone, seatbelt and drink driving offences in Victoria, News.com.au reported.
In the past three financial years, a total of 549,512 male drivers were caught drunk, not wearing a seatbelt, using their phone, failing to wear a seatbelt or ensure their passengers wore one, and drinking alcohol while behind the wheel. For the same offences, police nabbed 224,846 women.
Drunk-driving was the biggest battleground for police, with men accounting for 80 per cent of fines for such offences.
TAC chief executive officer Janet Dore said the road safety body would target men aged 18-39 as that was the high-risk demographic.
Victoria's top traffic cop, Assistant Commissioner Robert Hill, slammed the driver behavior and said police would continue to remove dangerous drivers off our roads.
