44-year-old American actor and singer, Jared Leto will play Andy Warhol in a new biopic called 'Warhol.'
The 'Suicide Squad' actor is cast to play the role of Andy Warhol, a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art in 1960s, reports The Guardian.
'Warhol' is a biopic which tells the life of the pop art pioneer from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The screenplay created by Terrence Winter will show the early life of Warhol, who shot to fame in the 1960s with his unique take on American consumerism.
The then 39-year-old Warhol was also openly gay at a time when homosexuality was not readily accepted and suffered as a victim of an attempted murder by Valerie Solanas, an aspiring writer and radical feminist, in 1968.
Jared Leto, who won an Oscar for playing a transgender in 'Dallas Buyers Club,' recently spoke out about the problems gay actors faced in Hollywood.
"I definitely don't think a gay leading man would have the same opportunities as a straight leading man," he expressed.
"I don't know if that's offensive or not, but that's my thought right now. It shouldn't be that way. This is still a very conservative business," he admitted.
The 'My So-Called Life' star was reportedly added to the cast of the second 'Blade Runner,' alongside Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford.
Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the untitled sequel to 'Blade Runner' will release in October next year.
