With situations taking a tense turn as the threat of Jat agitation rears its ugly head yet again in Haryana, the state government on Friday blocked internet services in Rohtak.

Rohtak Superintendent of Police (SP) Shashank Anand told ANI that the action had been taken as a precautionary measure.

Anand had said earlier admitted to high chances of internet services being blocked again giving the looming threat of Jat unrest in the state.

"We are taking a call as to whether we have to halt the internet service or not. It is under consideration and if needed, it will be done. We are also actively seeing the development on social media and have tried to infiltrate into groups. We have got hold of a couple of people, who are indulging in rumour mongering," he said.

The Haryana government has stepped up security in many towns as the deadline issued by the Jat community to accept their demand for quotas ended yesterday.

Meanwhile, representatives from the state government are holding talks with the Jat leaders in Chandigarh.

According to reports, the Jat leaders would also be meeting Haryana Chief Secretary Deepinder Singh Dhesi and Director General of Police (DGP) Y P Singhal to put forth their demands.

They would not resume the agitation till then.

Various Jat organisations had on Monday threatened to resume their quota agitation if the Haryana government fails to get their demand fulfilled by yesterday.
