The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday banned former Indian Premier League (IPL) Commissioner Lalit Modi for life on charges of financial irregularities.
The decision in this regard was taken at a Special General Meeting of the BCCI held here today during which the cricket board discussed a report filed by its disciplinary committee and decided to impose the ban.
Modi earlier in the day moved the Supreme Court today for a stay of the BCCI's Special General Meeting to consider a disciplinary committee's report against him.
The Delhi High Court had on Tuesday allowed the BCCI to conduct its Special General Meeting in Chennai on Wednesday, clearing the deck for the BCCI to impose a life ban on Modi over charges of alleged financial irregularities while heading the cash-rich IPL from 2008 to 2010.
Modi was suspended after the closing ceremony in 2010. During his suspension, a three-member disciplinary committee comprising of Arun Jaitely and Jyotiraditya Scindia along with BCCI president N. Srinivasan was formed.
