As Bidhya Bhandari took oath as the new President in Kathmandu, many Madhesi protestors took to the streets in Birgunj and burnt her effigy.
The protesters gathered at the Clock Tower Square to register their objection against the government and a fulfillment of their needs.
"The government is continuing to reject and ignore our demands. The Madhes is buring but they are doing propaganda for president and vice president elections," Shivji Soni, a Madhesi youth leader said.
"We don't want president and vice president. The government needs to find solution to our problem," he added.
Meanwhile, Mahendra Rai Yadav, a member of Terai Madesh Sadhbhawana Party, said that though they do not support the burning of the president's effigy, the government should take steps to fulfill Madhesi demands.
"People of Madhes are very angry, tensed and there is a fear among them. Though burning effigy of the president is against our policy, but the government and the president should be look into the matter, he added.
Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) leader Bidya Bhandari on Thursday took oath as the new President of Nepal. She is the first woman to be elected as president.
