The 'richest fight' in boxing history between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao has rightly justified its tag by raking in an eye-watering 400 million dollars and more than 4.4 million pay-per-view buys, organizers have said.
Mayweather extended his unbeaten record to 48-0 with a unanimous-decision win over the Filipino boxer-turned politician Pacquiao in Las Vegas.
The 'Fight of the Century' bout beat the previous record of 2.48 million buys from a 2007 Mayweather-Oscar De La Hoya fight, earning almost double the amount of money.
More than 71 million dollars have been generated from the sale of 16, 219 tickets at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino for a fight between boxing's two biggest stars that was five years in the making, Sport24 reported.
Organisers also said that the fight's gross revenue would climb above 500 million dollars when they add up all the revenue from overseas pay-per-view buys, close circuit, sponsorship money and merchandise sales.
