Australian Test legend Glenn McGrath has revealed that he could not resist making a jibe to the visiting Duke of Cambridge about Australia's recent 5-0 Ashes whitewash over England.

McGrath was joined by women's cricket star Ellyse Perry in hosting Prince William and his wife Katherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, at the Sydney Opera House on Wednesday shortly after the royal couple arrived along with their son Prince George.

According to News.com.au, McGrath, who met the Duke and the Duchess for the first time, admitted that he could not 'let slip' making a jibe to the Prince about Australia's recent Ashes victory, adding that Prince William brought up the subject when they were talking about cricket.

McGrath further said that the Duke told him he enjoys the Ashes over everything else and as such was disappointed at how it went recently, although he added that William said that the previous three were a lot better.

Hailing the couple, McGrath also said that he enjoyed the 15 minutes that he got to spend with them, adding that they were both very warm and friendly.

After greeting their thousands of fans at the Opera House, William and Kate were presented with specially commissioned cricket bats, as well as a baby 'baggy green' for His Royal Highness Prince George, the report added.
