Sacked England batsman Kevin Pietersen has reportedly been ruled out of his opening Indian Premier League (IPL) match on Thursday due to a finger injury.
The former England batting star was due to skipper Delhi Daredevils against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Sharjah but his seasonal bow is on hold due to the injury.
According to the BBC, Delhi's assistant coach Eric Simons expressed his disappointment at the development, saying that Pietersen would not be considered for the match, adding that it is a setback for Delhi as he is an important player in their set-up.
Pietersen had insisted that he is not out to 'make a point' when he plays in the seventh season of the IPL, which began on Wednesday at the UAE.
