Welcoming Prime Minster Narendra Modi's 'surprise' visit to Lahore to meet his Pakistani counterpart on his birthday, the Pakistan Government said both leaders expressed their desire to carry forward the dialogue process for the larger good of the people of the two countries.
"It was agreed to continue and enhance bilateral contacts and work together to establish good neighborly relations," Pakistan Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhary said in a statement.
"Prime Minister of Pakistan welcomed the initiative of the Indian Prime Minister to visit Lahore," he added.
Prime Minister Modi left for New Delhi after a surprise visit to Lahore where he was received by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and other Pakistani officials.
Prime Minister Modi and Sharif held a brief meeting at the latter's Raiwind residence.
This was the first time an Indian Prime Minister visited Pakistan in more than a decade.
