Tennis star Andy Murray will still be seen as a Scot rather than British even if he is crowned as the Wimbledon champion this year, a poll has revealed.

According to The Sun, the YouGov Poll, which is a survey of fans, showed that it made only a small difference to the way tennis fans viewed Murray's nationality even though Murray won gold at the London Olympics for team Great Britain and lifted the US Open title five months later.

The report further said that this year, only 35 per cent fans saw Murray as British, which is a drop from the number last year, when 42 percent fans viewed the tennis sensation as British, although it added that each time he loses, Murray is more Scottish than British.

Meanwhile, Murray's bid to be the first British man since 1936 to win the Wimbledon singles got another massive boost last night after reigning champion Roger Federer crashed out to Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky while sixth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who was lined up to meet the Scot in the quarter-finals, pulled out through injury.

Murray also won on Wednesday after beating Taiwan's Yen-Hsun Lu to go through to the third round in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Murray fans were left upset on Wednesday after queuing overnight to see their hero play on Centre Court only for him to be playing on a different one, the report added.
