An Indian Navy officer was killed in an accident on the yet to be commissioned Kolkata class destroyer that is currently undergoing trials in Mumbai after a malfunction in its fire fighting system.
The ship, currently designated Yard-701 by MDL Mazgaon Docks Limited that is constructing it was undergoing machinery trials in the Mumbai port trust when the incident took place.
The Indian Navy has been hit by a series of crippling accidents recently. Two weeks ago, two officers were killed in a fire aboard a Navy submarine INS Sindhuratna, which had been refitted and was being sea tested.
