Former Nepal prime minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand on Saturday said that his country is facing problems in wake of the massive earthquake that hit the region due to network failure.
"We are facing problem to communicate due to the network problem. We have been informed that Kathmandu has faced problems at a massive level. Dharahara Tower has collapsed and the buildings near it have also collapsed," Chand said.
"The disaster relief committee must have started working on it but we are not able to communicate with them due to network problem. Many houses have collapsed as well," he added.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defence has put Army, Air Force and Border Roads Organisation (BRO) on high-alert following the massive earthquake that shook Nepal and Northern India.
A high level meeting of ministers and top government officials has also been called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 3 pm today.
According to reports, the epicentre of the tremors was said to be in Pokhra, Nepal, with the European Mediterranean Seismological Center stating that the earthquake measured 7.4 on the Richter scale.
The Central government has also placed its disaster response agencies on high alert.
