Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday visited ghats located on the banks of the river Ganga to take stock of preparations being made for the Chhat pooja.

He said this year's preparations pose a challenge as the level of the river has dropped.

"The officials have made arrangements at these Ghats ahead of Chhat. I have just come to inspect that and give some suggestion. This year the level of river Ganges has dropped. Because of this the river has become less wide and people can get closer to the deep parts of the river. So to prevent any mishap we must demarcate the area and erect barricades," Nitish told media here.

Kumar recently won state assembly elections for a third consecutive time and is likely to take oath on November 20.
