Neil Patrick Harris, who has been roped to host the 2015 Academy Awards, shocked the audience with his racist opening joke.

The 'How I Met your Mother' star jokingly said that they are here to honour Hollywood's best and whitest, the Mirror reported.

Harris then he corrected himself by stating that he actually meant Hollywood's best and brightest.

The celebs sitting in the audience seemed shocked at the opening joke.

Harris said that he wanted to outdo Ellen DeGeneres' epic 2014 Oscars selfie.
