The main accused in the murder of bandit-turned-politician Phoolan Devi, Sher Singh Rana, was convicted even as ten other accused were acquitted by the Patiala Court today. The final verdict on Rana will be read out on August 12.
The lawyer for Rana, Manish Sharma said, "Sher Singh Rana has been convicted under IPC Sections 302 and 307/14. I would want to ask the court how Sher Singh Rana was individuated from the other accused." He further added that he could not give a more detailed statement till the court released its report.
Phoolan Devi, popularly known as the "Bandit Queen", was shot outside her house on July 25, 2001.
