Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid tributes to the former President R.Venkataraman on his 104th birth anniversary.
"Tributes to former President Shri R Venkataraman on his birth anniversary. He served India tirelessly through his long years in public life," tweeted PM Modi.
Born in Tamil Nadu and lawyer by profession, R.Venkataraman served as the eighth President of India from 1987 to 1992.
Venkataraman was also appointed a Member of the Union Planning Commission in 1967. He held that office until 1971.
In 1977, he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Madras (South) Constituency where he served as an Opposition Member of Parliament and Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee.
