President Pranab Mukherjee, who is a two-day visit to Bhutan, received a ceremonial reception upon his arrival in Thimphu today.
The President arrived here this morning and was received by Bhutan's King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck at Paro International Airport.
Along with his delegation, the President later met Queen Jetsun Pema at the Tashichhodzong in Thimphu.
President Mukherjee was accorded a warm welcome and was also given a Guard of Honour by the Royal Bhutanese Army.
President Mukherjee is the first Indian head of the state to visit to the country in 26 years.
During his visit, the President is scheduled to hold meetings with the King and Bhutan's Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay to boost bilateral ties.
He will also meet other prominent leaders of Bhutan.
According to reports, President Mukherjee has also addressed a programme on Indo-Bhutan relations at Thimphu this afternoon.
Reports also said that in the presence of President Mukherjee and the top leadership of Bhutan, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the establishment of Nalanda University and an agreement in the field of education has been signed.
