President Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday condoled the passing away of Jarbom Gamlin, the former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh.
"I am extremely saddened to learn about the passing away of Jarbom Gamlin," said President Mukherjee in condolence message to his wife, Shakuntala Gamlin.
"Gamlin made immense contribution towards the welfare of the people of the State of Arunachal Pradesh. His dedicated services as Legislator, Minister, Member of Parliament and Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh will always be remembered," he added.
He also said that in his death the nation has lost a leader, who always worked for the common man.
"Kindly accept my heartfelt condolences and convey the same to other members of your family. I pray to the Almighty to give you and your family the strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss," he added.
Former Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Jarbom Gamlin, 53, was suffering from liver thrombosis when he passed away on Sunday night.
He is survived by his wife, three daughters and a son.
He was president of the All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) for three years from 1981. Although Gamlin initially joined the People's Party of Arunachal (PPA), later he switched over to Congress and became a member of the Lok Sabha from 1999-2004.
In 2004, he was elected to the State Assembly and became home minister in the Gegong Apang ministry.
In 2009, he became power minister in the Dorjee Khandu government. On May 5, 2011, Gamlin became the chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh.
Gamlin's six-month-long chief ministerial tenure came to an end on October 31, 2011, after he resigned from the post following political upheaval in the state.
