Condemning the tragic attack by left wing extremists that left 13 CRPF personnel of paramilitary unit dead, Congress Spokesperson Randeep Surjewala on Tuesday said that the government needed to rethink their strategy in curbing Naxalism.

"It is time for the government to rethink their strategy on Naxalism and Naxal terror," Surjewala said.

Furthermore, the Congress leader expressed his condolences for the families of the martyrs.

"We pay homage to our martyrs who laid down their lives, our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased," he added.

Earlier today, President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the tragic attack by the left wing extremists.

An attack by Maoist forces on Monday left 13 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel of paramilitary unit dead, including two officers in the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh.

According to reports, the Maoist forces are also understood to have used local villagers as a human shield against retaliatory fire.

Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh government has reportedly decided to mount pressure on Maoists after yesterday's attack and steps are being taken in this direction.

Search operations have been allegedly intensified to find out the Maoists involved in the attack.
