South Africa's left-arm spinner Aaron Phangiso has been cleared to play in the World T20 in India and the suspension imposed on him has been lifted with immediate effect after independent re-assessment found his bowling actions within the parameters.
Earlier, Phangiso was suspended from bowling in domestic cricket by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after an independent assessment found all his deliveries exceeding the 15-degree level of tolerance permitted under the regulations.
Expressing his relief after successfully remedying his actions, Phangiso said that he was happy to be cleared, admitting that the past few weeks had been quite challenging for him, Sport24 reported.
The 32-year-old further thanked Cricket South Africa (CSA) for providing him with the opportunity to play in the pinnacle event of the T20 format, insisting that his focus would be to head into the competition with good form and confidence.
Reflecting on Phangiso's return, head coach Russell Domingo said that he was relieved that the spinner had successfully passed his re-test, saying that he could now focus on preparing himself for the big tournament ahead.
Echoing similar views, CSA Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat applauded the CSA and support staff for putting in the hard work to get Phangiso back on track.
Phangiso had earlier been reported for a suspect illegal bowling during his side Highveld Lions' win against the Warriors in the semi-finals of the Momentum One-Day Cup at the Wanderers.
South Africa will play their opening World T20 match against England at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 18.
