Star striker Cristiano Ronaldo netted a second-half goal as Real Madrid raced into the quarterfinals of the Champions League after brushing aside Roma 2-0 in the second leg of the last-16 tie at Santiago Bernabeu, thereby completing a 4-0 aggregate triumph.
After a goalless first half, Ronaldo opened his side account in the 64th minute, when he scored his 40th goal of the season.
James Rodriguez then doubled his side lead just four minutes later by hammering a low shot from a tight angle, the Guardian reported.
Roma had several crucial chances to get back into the tie, but Real finally put themselves beyond reach to seal the quarterfinal berth.
