The department of Floriculture and landscaping of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) organized a two- day event for the 21st Annual Flower show in Ludhiana on Wednesday in memory of former Vice-Chancellor Dr. M.S. Randhawa.

PAU Vice-Chancellor, Baldev Singh Dhillon inaugurated the event and emphasized the role of the university in promoting floriculture in the state. The university has opened a platform for all flower lovers by developing new varieties and promoting production technologies.

Recalling Randhawa's contribution as an author of several books on ornamental trees, shrubs and gardens, Dhillon said, "Keeping in view the diversification plan of the state government, emphasis is being laid on the commercial cultivation of flower seeds in a 2150 hectare area.

Dhillon encouraged visitors to actively participate in flower competition organized in collaboration with Estate Organisation and Department of Family Resource Management.

Around 1300 participants took part in the event. Prizes would be distributed on later today.

The competition was opened to hobbyists, individuals, amateurs, private, government, semi-government institutions and nurseries which had nine different categories of fresh/dry flower arrangements, seasonal flowers, foliage plants, cacti, succulents, ferns and bonsai.
