Being the underdog and experiencing disadvantages breeds "desirable difficulties" as it allows us to reflect on them and proactively adapt their lessons into our life and work habits.

Anna Akbari has claimed that the reason why underdogs succeed at the workplace is because they are less likely to take things for granted which makes them more likely to notice the little things and demonstrate appreciation, the BBC reported.

The sociologist and serial entrepreneur said that underdogs have rich imaginations as they are well-versed in the art of improvisation which transforms how we work and what we collectively produce.

The founder of 'Closet Catharsis' added that they are hyper-actively observant as the desire to "fit in" makes them more vigilant.

Akbari also said that underdogs are not risk averse as not having a safety net makes them take calculated risks as they don't have much to lose.

Perseverance, resilience, tenacity, and general strength of character leads us to succeed and all these traits are inherently ingrained in underdogs, making them the perfect employee.
