Manchester United played out a 1-1 draw against rival Stoke City, leaving Van Gaal's men nine point behind Premier League pace-setters Chelsea and Manchester City.
Ryan Shawcross gave Stoke an early lead with a close-range volley, which was subsequently equalized by United's Radamel Falcao, who swept in from a corner in the 26th minute, the BBC reported.
Stoke were denied a penalty when Chris Smalling appeared to handle, while a Peter Crouch header hit the post.
Currently, United are placed at number three spot and Stoke at 11th spot.
