Divulging details of his visit to ITBP posts at Gunji and Kalapani in Uttarakhand, Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday said much is needed to be done there, as even after six decades of Independence the area was bereft of development.

Rijiju, who visited the border areas to take stock of the defence infrastructure and development projects, said during his interactions with ITBP, SSB, Army personnel and locals, he came to know that they are living in very difficult situation as no development had taken place there.

He added that he would speak to various ministries for the development of the region for the convenience of people and security personnel.

Talking about Indian citizens living in the region using Nepal's telecom services, Rijiju said, "I didn't feel good about it, as providing facilities to our people is our responsibility and I will talk to the ministry concerned.
