Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand could make a reportedly shock switch to Arsenal if he is not offered a new contract at his current club.

Media reports believe that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admires the midfielder and the Frenchman is considering a move for Ferdinand if the United star becomes a free agent in the summer.

According to the Mirror, Ferdinand, who had been considering retirement earlier this season, is currently of the belief that he has plenty to offer and is preferring a contract extension at United, as his current deal expires at the end of this season.

However, with a dozen clubs interested in the midfielder, United's interim manager Ryan Giggs has urged the board to give Ferdinand an extra 12 months, but Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal's arrival would delay a decision.

Meanwhile, Ferdinand said that he feels fit, healthy, good and is enjoying his football, so he would be playing definitely on for another year, hopefully two or three more, but will take it year by year.

The midfielder added that he is happy at United and the club has been great for him, enabling his dreams to come true and a lot of the things in football for him, so he has to respect whatever decision the club takes.
