England coach Roy Hodgson has said that Manchester United's poor show this season has jeopardized some players' chances to make it to the national World Cup squad this year.

Hodgson said that United is one of the few teams that have had a lot of English players, but football players have to unfortunately accept their England careers are tied up with their club careers.

According to Fox News, the England boss said that if club players are not performing well with their respective teams and other players are doing extremely well in their clubs, then it does put their position as a national team member under some sort of threat.

Hodgson said that he feels pretty certain that United players would understand that there is no God-given right that because they have played in a few games up to now, they will play all the games in the future.

Hodgson further added that it is up to him to pick who the best players for the job are at any given moment, adding that it does not mean that one will choose a player for the national team every time he scores a goal, but it does imply that the players are being judged over a relatively short period of time.

United, who won the Premier League by 11 points before Sir Alex Ferguson retired as manager last year, are currently placed at the seventh place in the league with just two games left, the report added.

The FIFA World Cup will kickoff next month with England going up against Italy in the tournament opener in Manaus, Brazil, the report further added.
