Snapchat offers security fix post user data breach

Following the mega data breach of its 4.6 million users, Snapchat is reportedly offering a security patch to make it harder for hackers to collect and leak millions of usernames and phone numbers.

Last week a hacking group allegedly published the said number of usernames and connected phone numbers on a site called SnapchatDB.info, in a stunt that they said was designed to raise awareness about security issues in Snapchat's app.

According to The Verge, the leak was made possible by the the auto-destruct photo-sharing app's Find Friends feature, which lets users find any friend who has shared a phone number with the service.

Snapchat said that it would be soon releasing an updated version of the app through which users would be able to opt out of the Find Friends features.

The company said that no other data including Snaps, was compromised in the breach and assured users of stricter privacy policy.
