A two-day-long swimming championship was recently held in Jorhat, which attracted many swimmers from different districts of Assam.

The All Assam Swimming Championship, 2013, which was held here at the Jorhat Swimming Society Aquatic Complex, was organized by the Jorhat Swimming Society under the aegis of the All Assam Swimming Association (AASA).

This is the fifth time that a State Level swimming competition was being held in Jorhat after the construction of an International Standard Pool in 2010.

A total of 167 swimmers from 14 districts of Assam participated in the event. ASTON: Another state level championship will be organized soon SAMIRAN BORDOLOI, Secy. Jorhat Swimming Society.

According to the organizing committee, the response from every unit (district) and athletes was very good.

The Jorhat Swimming Society will also organize another state level championship this month at the same aquatic complex. The best swimmers in each category will qualify for the 67th Senior National Level Championship to be held in Kerala.

"The Jorhat Swimming Society will also organize another state level championship starting from September 29 at the same aquatic complex. All the winners will get national ranking points and all the best swimmers in every category in Sr. level will be selected on the basis of their performance," said Samiran Bordoloi, Secy. Jorhat Swimming Society.

"I used to practice at Jorhat Swimming Society. I have participated in several events in the past and won two bronze medals. There will be a selection for SGIF, so I am preparing for that championship," said Malakhi Hazarika, a participant.

"I have participated thrice in National Championships, one was in Pune, one was at SGIF sub-Junior championship, and other one was in Goa. I won many medals at the championship," added Tarun Bordoloi, participant from Kamrup.

Organizing such competitions on a regular basis will go a long way in encouraging upcoming swimmers.
