'The Walton' star Ralph Waite has died at the age of 85.

The actor, who portrayed John Walton, Sr. on the beloved family series, passed away at his home in South Palm Desert, California, the Guardian reported.

Waite, whose cause of death is unknown, played the role of a father for nine seasons of the series and won an Emmy nomination for it.
